World Earth Day 2026 falls on April 22. This year marks the 56th anniversary of World Earth Day, and various commemorative events are being held around the world. The theme of World Earth Day in China this year is “Cherish the Earth, Live in Harmony with Nature.”

World Earth Day is observed annually on April 22. It is a day dedicated specifically to global environmental protection. Its purpose is to raise public awareness of existing environmental issues and to mobilize people to participate in environmental protection movements, improving the overall environment of the planet through green and low-carbon lifestyles.

Earth Day was initiated by Gaylord Nelson and Denis Hayes in 1970. Today, Earth Day celebrations take place in 192 countries around the world, with more than one billion people participating each year, making it the largest civil environmental event on the planet.

To cherish our Earth, we can start by reducing harm to the planet and by making small changes in our daily lives to protect the environment.

We can stop littering and sort our waste. We can practice green and low-carbon living. We can save water and protect water resources. We can conserve electricity. We can promote “clean plate” campaigns to end food waste. We can reduce environmental pollution by avoiding single-use plastic products.
