Americans have a growing preference for “bagasse” products made in China, and exports of eco-friendly paper tableware have doubled.
Bagasse sourced from China undergoes a series of processing steps before finally becoming widely popular eco-friendly paper tableware on American dining tables.
The United States is a major export market for Chinese pulp-based tableware. According to reports, pulp-based tableware is primarily made from bagasse (hence the term bagasse tableware) through a molded pulp process. It is natural, biodegradable, and reasonably priced—qualities that align well with the demand for environmentally friendly tableware in the U.S. market. The export outlook remains strong. Bagasse tableware mainly includes bagasse pulp plates, bagasse pulp food containers, and bagasse pulp bowls.
However, beyond the United States, a diversified paper tableware export market is also taking shape in China. Chinese paper tableware is now exported to 24 countries, with major export destinations including Australia, the United States, Germany, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Bangladesh, Lebanon, and others—spanning nearly every corner of the world.
Given the favorable export landscape, this emerging eco-friendly industry is entering a period of growth, with increasing industry concentration.
